Khan meets Kirk shortly after Marcus woke him up, aka like right after the Narada incident. Kirk becomes infatuated because 1: Khan is being emo(with good reason), and 2: "John" does not react to the last name of Kirk. "John" is infatuated because he is a bit drunk, Jim's willing to just let him vent, and cannot seem to figure out the exact color blue of Jim's eyes (he is very determined to do this throughout the fic—it gets quite funny).
The fic is very well done. Khan's anguish over his crew is quite nice, as is the subtle shift in his mindset from considering Jim inferior to important (though he never stops cursing Jim being somehow constantly injured). Things of course go off the rails by the point of Into Darkness, but it's not Khan who deviates the plot (wait and see who it is) and so a lot of the last thrid is dealing with his actions. The drama is still very good and very real when the crew is in danger (though apparently they fixed Nibiru without a hitch in this verse).
The cohesiveness of the Enterprise crew is great. While the court scenes are nowhere near realistic, the author at least owns up to knowing nothing about law. Some of the running gags are epic, like how long Khan goes through the fic without figuring out that Jim Kirk is Captain James of the Enterprise. He seriously keeps insulting the captain in his head until he's hit over the head with it and then is angry that he didn't get it since he's supposed to be super-smart.
The author does take care not to over leather pants Khan and his crew, though everything pre-freezing is mostly glossed over. Also a lot of nice focus on Chekov, which is fun. And the main lawyer is apparently he guy who tried to help Mc Coy during his divorce trial, which is also fun.

Recommended very, very highly.
